Bobby Hogge IV, one of California’s most winning modified drivers, is the latest entrant in the $7,500 to win, $500 to start West Coast Nationals presented by Chad Chadwick PROmotions.
The event features complete programs for the Modified and Sport Mod divisions. Practice will be Thursday evening, with qualifying beginning on Friday and the two West Coast National feature events taking place Saturday night. The Sport Mod main event will pay $1500 to win, $150 to start. Speedshift TV will broadcast the race worldwide on the internet.
Hogge IV, from Salinas, Calif. scored major wins this season – including a sweep of the IMCA Mike Cecil Memorial at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville and a win at the Roger Haudenschild Tribute at Southern Oregon Speedway. He won the previous Antioch Speedway West Coast Nationals in 2011.
“The purse that Chad is paying will draw top drivers from across the region, making the West Coast Nationals a hi-end event,” Hogge IV says. “I want a high car count, and I want to race against high caliber cars and drivers. Its natural for a driver to drive as fast or faster than the drivers being raced against.”
In 1993, Hogge IV followed his dad, Bobby Hogge III, in continuing the family racing dynasty. The young Hogge IV raced one year in street stocks before moving up to the modified division in 1994. Just over a dozen seasons later he had more than 200 wins and a NASCAR regional title. “I want to win races that have the greatest cars and drivers,” Hogge IV says. “It is the only way to gauge yourself in your racing career.”
The West Coast Nationals is drawing entrants from Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and as far away as Western Canada. Contingencies and special awards will bolster the purse. Discounted entry fees for each division must be postmarked Oct. 10.
For lodging, Comfort Inn in Antioch, Calif. has a racer’s nightly rate of $99 for West Coast Nationals participants and attendees. Call 925-775-4239.
